A backyard in Glendale became a pastel carnival world for one very important first birthday. During a pandemic, when the world had shrunk, we made it expand. Pink arched structures framed an open sky. Flowers cascaded from above in blush, lavender and yellow. Aerial performers spun inside hoops while a towering harlequin cake anchored the scene in layers of mint, pink and sky blue. Tables were set in the softest palette imaginable. Five performers in feathered and fur-trimmed costumes brought the whole dream to life. Every detail was designed for wonder. The birthday girl was one. She will never remember it. Everyone else never forgot it.
